Basic Skills For Beginner Adult Figure Skaters-Spins (part 3) [VIDEO]

At this point our adult figure skater has become proficient at a two foot spin,  so now it’s time to take the plunge and try lifting one foot to progress to a one foot upright spin.

Once a skater becomes comfortable spinning with the free leg bent at the knee and pressed up against the skating leg (sometimes referred to as the “flamingo”) she or he can progress to fancier fare, for example a sit spin.   For the time being I would just encourage this skater to keep practicing the basic upright position to build her confidence.

Next week you will see her progress to her first one foot  upright spin.  What do you find challenging about the upright spin?   Be sure to leave your comments and thoughts below.

Well said, and once you master the basics then you make it harder for yourself working on variations!

Something I think should be included with this is the fact it takes time to accomplish.
With the spin, don’t be discouraged if you can’t get it right away. It takes time and practice to get it. It can be very frustrating but takes hundreds to thousands of hours of practice working on the upright spin. Then comes the backward spin and this takes up to a few years.

    Remember have fun:)
